Day 1
The Sea Pines Resort, located on Hilton Head Island, is one of the premier travel destinations in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. With sub-tropical temperatures and warm gulf-stream breezes, the region is a perfect getaway. There are a variety of accommodation choices to make at The Sea Pines Resort, starting with The Inn at Harbour Town. This 60-room boutique hotel boasts all of the luxuries of its European equivalents, with a distinctly Scottish flavor. The amenities range from the traditional, such as 24-hour butler service, to the modern, such as high-speed Internet access. Other features range from exquisite soaking tubs and walk-in showers to in-room spa services. The Sea Pines Resort also offers villa and vacation home rentals.
After checking in, it’s time to hit the links. The Harbour Town Golf Links is one of Pete Dye’s most famous courses, a par-71 test measuring 6,973 yards that has hosted the PGA Tour’s Verizon Heritage Tournament (formerly the Heritage Classic) since 1969. The course, rated as the best in South Carolina by Golf Magazine, requires careful, accurate and consistent shot-making from those who want to triumph. Like the Inn at Harbour Town, the course looks to Scottish tradition for its distinct look and feel.
After your round, try dining at the Harbour Town Grill, overlooking the ninth hole of the Links. The specialties include fresh seafood as well as a mouthwatering selection of chargrilled ribeyes, steaks and filets.
Day 2 Start your day with a bite at the Harbour Town Bakery and Café, famous for its home-cooked breakfasts, including French toast and gigantic chocolate muffins. After that, try your luck on Heron Point by Pete Dye, the famed golf course architects newest creation which opened in September 2007. This 7,007-yard, par-72 course has fairways shaped into dramatic angles and shifting elevations, while a mix of sand, mulch, limestone and different grasses offer appealing color changes.
For lunch, try the laid-back atmosphere at the Harbourside Café, with its outdoor seating and views of the Harbour Town Yacht Basin. The menu features a wide variety of foods ideal for a midday meal. Then take a stroll around Harbour Town and enjoy boutique shopping and a climb to the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse.
Spend some downtime in one of Sea Pines’ two spas, Le Spa or The Sanctuary. Relax and take a massage, or opt for a pedicure or facial.
Day 3 Aside from its top-notch golf, The Sea Pines Resort has a wealth of other activities to engage in on your vacation including 23 tennis courts, five miles of oceanfront beach, and a 605-acre Forest Preserve, which can be toured on horseback with mounts from Lawton Stables. The Sea Pines Resort Nature Center is a place to see animals and exhibits in their habitats, as well as rent bicycles and kayaks or schedule an ecotour.
For dinner head to Topside at The Quarterdeck which offers panoramic views of the Calibogue Sound, Harbour Town Yacht Basin and the 18th green of Harbour Town Golf Links and specializes in fresh local seafood, thick cut steaks, and great appetizers. After dinner, head downstairs to The Quarterdeck for cocktails and live entertainment.
Day 4 On your final day take on an additional challenge at The Sea Pines Resort by playing the Ocean Course, the first golf course built on Hilton Head Island. The Ocean Course emphasizes the traditional and classic principles of design and is one of the only golf cou rses on Hilton Head Island to offer a view of the Atlantic Ocean.
After your round, enjoy lunch at The Lakehouse which overlooks the fairways of the Ocean and Heron Point golf courses. Try the popular Club Choice, a triple-decker sandwich, or The Sea Pines Resort Cobb, voted the island’s best salad.
Walk across the street to spend the rest of your day relaxing at the beach. Enjoy dinner and cocktails at The Sea Pines Resort Beach Club, Hilton Head’s only outdoor oceanfront restaurant.
